JAMES BAKER

Vice President, Investments

James Baker joined Macallan in 2021, bringing 14 years of banking, financial management, and real estate investment experience. In his role as Vice President, James is primarily responsible for evaluating and underwriting new investment opportunities, helping to structure debt and equity for development initiatives, and analyzing performance and monitoring returns for all investments across The Macallan Group portfolio of companies.

Prior to joining Macallan, James was most recently a Director at The Ardent Companies, an Atlanta-based asset management firm. His primary responsibilities included asset management and underwriting for the residential land team and the single-family rental portfolio.

Before joining Ardent, James was an Asset Manager with Sylvan Road Capital, an Atlanta-based rental home aggregator. He also spent time working as an Asset Manager at Synovus Bank and First Citizens Bank, where he was responsible for the daily management and disposition of over $300 million of REO/non-performing loans.

James received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University and a Master of Science in Real Estate from Georgia State University.

A native of central Ohio, James has lived in Atlanta since 2007 and currently lives in Marietta with his wife Tess and their three young children.
